New York is a constituent state of the United States of America, one of the 13 original colonies.

Peter Parker became Spider-Man and fought Lizard, who had developed a plan to turn the entirety of New York City into lizards. Spider-Man learned about the plan and successfully stopped him[1].
Spider-Man also protected New York from Max Dillon, who had developed the ability to absorb electricity. Dillon attempted to absorb the city's energy grid, but Spider-Man overloaded it, killing him. Parker started to become angry following the death of Gwen Stacy at the hands of Green Goblin, and became rageful.[2]
