Edward Brock is a freelance photographer that was infected by an alien symbiote that bonded itself with him, becoming known as Venom.[1]

The Amazing Spider-Man (video game)
In the Scorpion's biography it was mentioned that, along with the blend of human and scorpion DNA, a black substance from space was added into the creature that would become the Scorpion. This black substance bears a resemblance to the Symbiote that would later become Venom.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (video game)
While not making an appearance "Project Venom" is mentioned in Ravencroft Institute as a drug to test on prisoners, it's possible that they had duplicated and used the same black substance that was injected into the now dead Scorpion. One particular usage of the Venom drug resulted in the creation of Carnage.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Mobile Game)
When Eddie Brock had discovered that OsCorp were giving weapons to gangs, they captured him and used him in one of their experiments, thus turning him into Venom. Venom faces off with Spider-Man but is eventually defeated. He reveals to Spider-Man what had happened.

- His design and appearance in the mobile version of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game is inspired by his incarnation from Spider-Man 3 from the previous film series by Sam Raimi, namely the more slender build and incorporating webbing into the skin.
- Before Sony and Marvel Studios' share deal, a Venom film that had been announced in 2007 was slated to be reworked into the Amazing Spider-Man canon as a spin-off movie, with Finn Wittrock in talks to play Eddie Brock. Details of development and plans ranged from Brock and the symbiote debuting in either The Sinister Six or The Amazing Spider-Man 3, the solo film having Carnage as the antagonist, which had been planned since the film's announcement, with Alan Tudyk in talks to play him, or the entire film being merged into either the Sinister Six movie or the the third film. The film's working titles varied between Venom: Carnage to The Amazing Spider-Man Presents: Venom, to having Carnage get his own movie, in which it was said to be set from his perspective as a villainous protagonist while Spider-Man, Venom and Black Cat teamed up against him. Eventually, after Sony settled on the deal with Marvel Studios on including Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this film series was cancelled, Sony finally did move forward on developing and releasing Venom in October 2018, with Tom Hardy in the title role. There are conflicting reports as to whether or not it is involved with the MCU.
- In The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (video game), J. Jonah Jameson sends Peter Parker a message stating that his sources mentioned Ravencroft Institute testing drugs on inmates and nicknaming it "Project Venom". Near the end of the game, Spider-Man faces off with Carnage after the symbiote was bonded with Cletus Kasady.
- Chris Zylka (who plays Flash Thompson) had expressed interest in having Flash become the Agent Venom version for the Venom movie. Finn Wittrock was also considered for the role of Eddie Brock. Films featuring both versions were put under consideration before the series' cancellation.
- In the alternate final trailer of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the trailer shows a scene of Gustav Fiers walking pass Vulture's wings and Dr. Octopus' mechanical tentacles, and we soon see a small, black, liquid substance contained a floating ball like container. Many fans speculated this to be the symbiote. In the film, the symbiote was replaced with the Rhino armor.
- Unlike in other media, Venom triggers Spider-Man's spider sense, detecting him as a threat. The reasoning is because Spider-Man has never worn the symbiote before in this storyline.
- Benjamin Diskin also voiced Venom in The Spectacular Spider-Man.
